Yikes, nearly 4 months with no sort of news update...

2012 is shaping up to be a busy year so far for Broken Harbour.  A new album has been in production since December, and thanks to computer/gear/software issues, the recording process is taking quite a long time, but I think it will be worth the wait.  About a half hour of very minimal and desolate material has been recorded so far.  Don't expect 'Gramophone Transmissions 2' or anything, this will be another left turn from what you've heard before.

The reviews section has also been updated again as well with all the recent press I could find.

Broken Harbour releases can now be purchased from CD Baby, iTunes, and Malignant Records in addition to the usual Bandcamp route.  Buying from both CD Baby and Malignant can be a great way to save money on shipping if those sites have other releases you're looking for.

A few new reviews found around the internet have been added to the site for historical purposes as well, if you're into reading and all that...

Broken Harbour will re-enter the studio next month, a few idea's have been brewing for several years now, and the plan is to have 2-3 releases finished by spring.

Physical CD copies of 'Gramophone Transmissions' have been received and pre-orders will be shipping October 3rd.  Thank you again for your patience.

Of course things can't go smoothly!  The first pressing of CD's came in the mail today and there are color issues with some of the artwork.  Being that there is no way to get them reprinted by tomorrow for the release, the physical album has been delayed for a week or two.  The digital album will release tomorrow as planned, but if you're one of the few people who still likes CD's, then you'll have to wait until it's sorted out.  Apologies galore especially for those that have pre-orders that are supposed to go out tomorrow.   If you do decide to order the CD version of the album now, you will get an immediate download of it, and the CD will ship once ready.  Again apologies are in order...

Broken Harbour's new album, 'Gramophone Transmissions' is set to be released September 13.  The first in a planned series of albums, the record marks a shift in shift in focus from the first album.  Grungy and organic, the use of old lo-fi samples and orchestral recordings helps to comprise an musical experience that's never been heard before in the 'ambient' realm.  With incredibly cool artwork from Michal Karcz, 'Gramophone Transmissions' is currently available for pre-order on BandcampPre-orders will get exclusive access to 2 tracks from the album for download immediately, and full access to the album digitally on release day.

You may have noticed that a revamped http://brokenharbour.ca/ has gone live.  While not quite finished, there will be more exclusive music and content added in the near future.  Check the 'releases' page here for access to unreleased music that will be updated on occasion.

After a 14 month break, Broken Harbour has resurfaced.

Over the next while, Broken Harbour will re-establish a presence on the internet, release a new album (or maybe two), and re-issue the debut. Thank you to all the fans who bought records and indicated their support of the project while it was shut down. Had it not been for you, Broken Harbour would still be dead.

To celebrate, the debut disc has been repriced to 99 cents on bandcamp for a limited time.

Starting today Broken Harbour is on an indefinite hiatus.  I need a break from music to deal with a few things.  In my short time making  music, I have met some great artists that I admire and respect.  I admire them even more now that I realize just how hard to do this while holding together a family and a job.  For those that have supported Broken Harbour over the last years, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  The emails I’ve gotten from fans and other musicians expressing how much they love the music have been extremely gracious, and precious.

Broken Harbour will return, until then.....

Thank you.

There has been a slight delay with the release from Consouling Sounds due to some artwork issues.  The album is now due to be out in feburary or march.  Apologies to those that have been patiently waiting.  You can still purchase the digital release for $5.99 through Bandcamp.

All pre-release promo copies of BH's debut album have been sold.  Copies of the album will be available soon from Consouling Sounds.

There are only 2 promo copies of BH's debut album left for sale, only $12 buys you a future collectors item! See the releases page for paypal info. Thanks as well goes out to all those who have bought copies and downloads!

Freelance music journalist extraordinaire Jordan Richardson posted a great review of BH's debut.  It can be read at the Canadian Audiophile music review site or at the I Hear Sparks feature on blogcritics.

There are only a few (less than 5) pre-release promo copies of the album left for purchase before the official release - which can be purchased for $12 on the releases page. The album can also be purchased in a variety of digital formats via Bandcamp for the low, low price of $8.99.

John Shanahan of the excellent Hypnagogue Ambient Reviews website recently gave a glowing review of BH's debut.  It's not yet published on his website but can be viewed under the 'reviews' section of this website.

Bert Strolenberg of Sonic Immersion recently reviewed BH's debut, and gave it 3.5/4 stars:  www.sonicimmersion.org/review.php?letter=B&review=71868

2 new songs were posted today on Broken Harbour's myspace page.

The Ballad Of Dave Bowman - Part 1 and Dark Clouds Approaching From The West are both new recordings using orchestral, choral and mellotron samples, some of which are sampled from old vinyl records. This material along with several other sounding songs will most likely comprise the next BH Album.

After sending out what seemed like a never ending stream of promo cdr's, BH has about a dozen of them taking up room in his studio, and they are available for purchase.  If you would like to have a physical album before the official release, please paypal $12 CAD (includes shipping to anywhere in the world) to brokenharbour@gmail.com. Ships as a 2-panel foldout in a clear plastic sleeve, if you've ever bought a Uton CD then you know the drill. Might make a cool collectors item one day...Promo_resized.jpg

Promo copies of the debut album will be in stock sometime next week.  If you are interested in a copy for review purposes or college/internet radio play, please get in touch at brokenharbour@gmail.com.

Recording of the second broken harbour album is already well under way and several songs have already been recorded. It’s a bit early to start speculating on the final sound too much, but so far it is warmer, less synthetic, with somewhat shorter tracks. Studio time has been limited in the last few weeks, but hopefully the final product will be finished recording within a few months.

The debut album from can now be purchased digitally at:

A physical release is still being secured, but rest assure it WILL happen very soon.

Broken Harbour's debut album will be available soon, details will follow as soon as they are available.  Recorded from August 2008 to May 2009, the album is a reflection on space and isolation.  For now, here is a preview of the artwork created by BH himself:
